People in West Sussex spend more time than any others in Britain tracking down biographical details using a special website
available through West Sussex Library Service.
Figures released by Oxford University Press show West Sussex tops the
league for the highest amount of time spent browsing the Oxford
Dictionary of National Biography, exploring the lives of more than
55,000 people worldwide.
When it comes to surfing the latest resources on the internet, many Library
users are logging on from home to enjoy the nation’s most trusted reference resources.
Oxford
University Press has released the first set of annual usage statistics
for its Oxford Online resources, widely available across England’s
public Libraries.
"It's very rewarding to learn
that West Sussex Library users are top of the table in Britain when it
comes to using the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography,” said Mike
Coleman Deputy Leader of West Sussex County Council, who oversees the
County Library Service.
“It
is further confirmation that Libraries continue to play a vital role in
providing specialist online information to their customers -
information which is not available to every internet user."
The Oxford Dictionary of National
Biography is just one of a range of services available 24 hours a day
as part of the Electronic Library, from West Sussex Libraries. This
offers fast access to top quality, authoritative information including
Encylopedia Brittanica and News UK, allowing easy access to recent
newspaper articles.
