Chichester Harbour Conservancy has funds available this year for new projects that will bring environmental, social and economic benefits to the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The Sustainable Development Fund has £63,000 available to allocate in grants to local projects that will have a positive impact on the AONB.

Individuals, organisations and businesses are invited to apply for funding of up to 75% towards new or ongoing projects that meet the funding criteria. Grants are likely to be between £500 and £5000 with more available in exceptional circumstances.

Nicky Horter, AONB Officer said “This scheme provides a great opportunity for funding new and exciting projects which will benefit the local community and environment for years to come.”

Eligible projects may include the conservation of the natural environment; cultural heritage; recycling; renewable resources; youth schemes; or promoting local products and skills. Examples of successful projects last year include; wildlife webcams at Birdham School, conservation of Fishbourne Millpond and reedbeds, a new all-ability path at Nore Barn Woods in Emsworth, and a new garden at St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

To register your interest and request an application pack, please contact Nicky Horter at the Harbour Office on 01243 510983 or email This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it . This is a competitive scheme and applications will be assessed according to the entry criteria. The fund closes in March 2008. Information on the scheme is available online at www.conservancy.co.uk/about/sdf.asp.
