It is nearly Christmas and so it can mean only one thing, it is travel chaos time! Major railway engineering works will start in our area over the Christmas period in to the new year!
Train services will be severely disrupted in the Havant area over Christmas and the New Year as the final phase of the Portsmouth Area Resignalling Project is reached.
The construction and services company Siemens have been working for the past 18 months carrying out preparation for the main part of the works over 50 miles of track. When completed the project will result in improved capacity and reliability for train services in the area.
Details of the engineering work are as follows:
From 23 December 2006 to 1 January 2007 inclusive, buses will replace all trains from Chichester, Petersfield and Fareham to Portsmouth Harbour.
From 2 January to 31 January 2007 inclusive, buses will replace all trains from Fratton to Portsmouth Harbour. Many train services in the area will operate to revised timetables with some journeys starting short of Fratton (for example, Portsmouth - Cardiff trains will start from Fareham).
From 1 February 2007 to 4 February 2007 inclusive, buses will replace all trains from Chichester, Petersfield and Fareham to Portsmouth Harbour.
Train services on the morning of Monday 5 February will also be altered while trains get back into position to run the normal train service.
Full details of the revised train timetables for the period of the works can be found on the National Rail web site at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
