Chichester District is officially ‘blooming marvellous’ after it has been placed at the top of a poll which assesses green spaces across the country.
The assessment is based on a variety of issues including user satisfaction, quality, cleanliness, safety, usage and accessibility.
A company called KMC-consultancy consulted over 500,000 members of the public across the country about their local parks. Out of all of the councils taking part across the country, Chichester District received the best results and topped the league.
The most visited park across the District was the Council’s Priory Park. 19% of those surveyed visit parks daily, which results in this group alone generating approximately 25,000 visits to parks per year. The most popular reason for visiting a park was to relax, closely followed by exercise and somewhere to take the children to play.
‘The Council is delighted to be recognised, yet again, for its excellent parks,’ said Cllr Margaret Field, Portfolio Holder for Sport and Culture.
‘The Council was recently awarded in the national ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition with a Silver Gilt Award and took second place out of five in the Large Town/Small City Category. The fact that we have come top of the league table against councils across the country is great news and highlights the great work that is taking place to constantly improve our green spaces across the District.’
