New Waste and Recycling Service at Chichester Marina PDF Print E-mail

Chichester District Council has been awarded a contract to provide a comprehensive recycling and waste collection service to Chichester Marina.

Previously, the service was carried out in conjunction with Veolia Environmental Services.

Each of the 26 pontoons, providing 1089 berths at the marina, have been supplied with a range of bins for recycling paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, tins and glass. Collections for all the bins will take place on Wednesday.

To help boat owners maximise their recycling of onboard rubbish, Premier Marinas, the owner and operator of the marina, has provided every berth holder with three reusable recycling bags for paper and card, cans and plastics and glass. This will enable boat owners to sort their rubbish on board before taking it to the marina bins.

District Councillor Pieter Montyn, Environment Portfolio Holder, said:

"Residents have always responded well to the recycling schemes we have implemented, but we must continue to reduce the amount of waste we produce as a District. This scheme will now give visiting boat owners the opportunity to recycle more of their rubbish and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill."

For further information about commercial waste collection and recycling facilities for businesses, telephone (01243) 534617 (commercial waste collection) and (01243) 785166, ext 4148 (commercial recycling collection).
