Two live reindeer will be bringing Christmas cheer to Chichester when they pay a visit to the city centre on Saturday 24 November.

The animals will be outside Marks & Spencer in East Street from 10 am to 4 pm, and a photographer from the Chichester Observer will be on hand to take photographs - providing the ideal Christmas present for family and friends. All the photos will be in the Chichester Observer the following week and available to buy from the Observer offices in Eastgate, Chichester.

Councillor Maureen Elliott, Portfolio Holder for the Economy, said:

"Following the success of the reindeer last year, I am sure they will again prove to be extremely popular with both young and old and will encourage curious shoppers to come to the city."

The reindeer have been provided by Chichester District Council. The District Council wishes to thank Covers for supplying the fencing around the reindeer and the Chichester Observer for its support.

Other events taking place on Saturday 24 November are as follows:-

  • 9.00 am – 6.00 pm - Park & Ride, from Chichester College, Westgate Fields, to the City Centre.
  • 2.30 pm – Father Christmas and Lions Club Reindeer Sleigh, East Street/North Pallant, Chichester.
  • 4.30 pm – Carol singing at the City Council offices, North Street, Chichester, with Chichester Cathedral Choir and Seamus Cullen.
  • 4.45 pm – The Mayor of Chichester, Cllr Ray Brown, will be switching on the Christmas lights outside the City Council offices.
  • 6.00 pm and 6.30 pm – Father Christmas Boat Trips, Chichester Canal, Basin Road, Chichester.
  • Stilt walkers, street entertainers, face painting and balloon model makers will also be there.
  • Spirit FM and cast members from James & The Giant Peach, this year's Christmas pantomime at Chichester Festival Theatre, will be present during the day.
