For the tenth year in succession, the free Park and Ride service will
again operate in Chichester on the last five Saturdays leading up to
Christmas. In addition, this year the service will also run everyday
during the last whole week before Christmas, and on Christmas Eve.
The bus shuttle will start from Chichester College car park at
Westgate and run to the city centre. Drop off and pick up points will
be at Eastgate (opposite the Cattle Market) and at the Cathedral in
West Street, before the bus returns to the college car park. The
service will operate every 15 minutes between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm on
Saturdays 24 November 1, 8, 15, 22 December. It will also run weekdays
between 17 and 21 December, and on Monday 24 December.
The
scheme ran successfully last year and it is hoped that it will make
Christmas shopping an easier experience for those who want to take
advantage of easy access to the city centre, whilst at the same time
helping to reduce any traffic problems that may occur.
As last
year, the initiative is being organised and funded by Chichester
District Council and supported by Chichester Chamber of Commerce &
Industry, Chichester College and the Chichester Observer. The bus
service is being provided by Stagecoach South.
Sam Howes, the District Council's Deputy Chief Executive, said,
'Operating
a FREE Park & Ride service at the busiest time before Christmas
will enable Chichester shoppers to save money on parking, whilst also
enjoying a relaxed way of gaining access to the city without having to
drive into the centre.'
