A unique exhibition of community artwork opens at Pallant House Gallery
on Tuesday (23 Oct). The exhibition is the culmination of months of
work inspired by Chichester Harbour.
The innovative art project ‘Earth, Air and Water’ has been organized
by Judi Darley, Activities Officer for Chichester Harbour Conservancy
in partnership with Marc Steene at Pallant House Gallery. Judi said,
‘the natural beauty of the harbour has inspired artists since time
began, I wanted to continue that tradition. Rather than run a
competition, the community event enables lots of people to join in,
with the opportunity of having their work exhibited at the prestigious
Pallant House Gallery.’
Work on the project began with public
sessions in July. These included an ‘Inspiration for Art’ day with
participants visiting two contrasting areas of Chichester Harbour. A
photography day followed led by local professional Iain McGowan. Ganesh
Kings led a driftwood sculpture event and other open art sessions were
held.
In addition to working with the public, Judi was keen that
local schools get involved. She added, ‘thanks to generous funding from
the Friends of Chichester Harbour, we were able to offer free art
sessions to four local schools. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed visiting
the harbour and put in some really hard work on their pieces.’
A
selection of the art works will go on display in the Studio at Pallant
House Gallery from the 23 October – 4 November 2008. Entry to the
studio is free.
