A month-long consultation process about plans for the new Chichester
District Museum will begin next week with an exhibition at Chichester
Library.
Initial designs by Keith Williams, the architect for the project,
will be on show across the District to give as many people as possible
the opportunity to comment on the proposals.
To
help picture the new building at the Tower Street site, a model of the
area from Chichester Cathedral to the North Walls has been
commissioned, with images of two possible designs for the new building.
The
exhibition, which starts at Chichester Library on October 1, also
explains the reasons behind the projects, how the designs are being
developed, and how the District Council will use the results of the
consultation as part of a planning application, due to made in December.
Councillor Nick Thomas, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Sport at Chichester District Council, said:
"This
is a very exciting project for the whole district, and once completed,
we will be able to show our Museum's varied collection in many
innovative ways.
"The housing part of
the development is very important as it will help to pay for the new
museum, along with the proceeds of selling the current museum building
in Little London. As a Council, we want to see an iconic new building,
and have developed robust project management procedures from our
successful projects at Bourne Leisure and the Selsey Centre to enable
this to happen."
After finishing at Chichester
Library on October 6, the exhibition will be on show at the following
venues during their normal opening hours:
- Bourne Leisure Centre – Monday 8th October to Wednesday 10th October
- Grange Centre, Midhurst – Thursday 11th to Saturday 13th October
- Selsey Centre, Selsey - Wednesday 17th October to Sunday 21St October
- Leconfield Hall, Petworth – Thursday 25th to Fri 26th
