Sewage in Chichester Harbour 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Hi,

I was pretty horified in this day and age that southern water are still dumping raw sewage in to Chichester harbour and they blamed high ground water levels! This seems silly as we havent really had much rain and nothing on the scale of the chichester floods a few years ago!

Have they stopped this now and is the water going to remain poluted this summmer?

Hi Ralph,

The last I read in the Chichester Observer was that they had stopped and that water quality was recovering, I will try and dig out some _link_s tomorrow. Thanks for posting on my new site!

Cheers

Stephen

I cant prove any of this but I will let people draw there own conclusions.

I have a little bit of eczema on my feet from time to time, I got my feet wet on Bosham quay the weekend before last and during last week my foot and lower leg started to hurt. Woke up yesterday morning and could barely stand on it, got to work north of Brighton and my foot and leg had become really swollen and to the point where I nearly fainted. Managed to get to the docs last night and he said my foot and leg had become infected! I can only put this down to standing in the water on the slipway down on Bosham Quay. I know there have been some water quality issues in the harbour for sometime so now I feel I have first hand experience of it!

Just woken up in agony again and have to down about 20 tablets a day for this!

I believe the problem lies with Apuldram sewage works which are apparently allowed to dump screened but raw sewag water in to chichester harbour when they have a lot of rainfall. This modern sewage plant in 2007 still cannot cope with the rain!

You can check the water quality tests on Chichester District Councils website here http://www.chichester.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=5765
